Introduction to the BS fan range
Fans and Blowers is one of the UK's leading suppliers of industrial centrifugal fans. We produce an extensive range of products for use in most industries including combustion, kilns and furnaces, dust and enviromental control equipment, agricultural machinery, materials conveying, gas boosting, gas exhausting and many others.
Introduction to the BS fan range
The BS range incorporates three standard widths, 100% 75% and 60%. These widths combined with impeller diameters of 400mm to 1200mm give a volume range of approximately 1000 ft3/min (1700 m3/hr) to 60000 ft3/min (100.000 m3/hr) and pressures up to 26" swg (660mmwg).
The flat backward inclined blade design of the impeller enables the fans to handle air with a light dust loading as well as standard air and hot gas applications.
The curves on the following pages represent fans running at 1450 and 2900 rpm, this gives and idea of the performance of this range os fans.
Fan Specification
Casing
The casing is manufactured from fully welded steel plate, stiffened as necessary to ensure maximum rigidity. The inlet cone is a high efficiency desigh with spun section to ensure a smooth flow of air into the impeller. The cone is secured to the casing by setpins to faciliate easy access to the impeller. Inlets can be guarded, spigot or flanged to suit reguirements. Discharge positions are described at the rear of this catalogue.
Impeller
The impeller, having blades of the backward inclined type, is a fully welded mild steel unit with spun shroud, and balanced to ISO G6.3 as standard.
Alternative materials can be used for elevated temperatures and corrosive conditions.
Shaft (ARRGT 3&6)
The shaft is manufactured from fully machined material, designed to have at least 50% in excess of the maximum running speed of the fan. The impeller is secured to the shaft by fitted gib head key.
Bearings (ARRGT 3&6)
Plummer blocks containing grease lubricated roller bearings are fitted as standard and are selected to siut the most arduous of conditions.
The bearing assembly is supported on a substantial mild steel pedestal. Allowances can be made fot the addition of a cooling impeller, which is fitted to fans running at 150 deg C and over.
Finish
All fans are painted with a standard grey primer both internally and externally, with a top coat of hammer oyster. Special paint systems can be applied at an extra cost.
Testing
All fans are given a mechanical running test prior to despatch. Any witnessed running of performance test can be carried out at extra cost. Performance testing is to BS 848 PT2.
Drive arrangements
Arrangement No1
Single open protected type fan having two bearings, one either side of the fan case, on shallow case mounted bearing supports. The impeller is positioned on the fan shaft between bearings. Shaft vee belt driven.
Arrangement No3
Single inlet fan having two bearings positioned on a pedestal to one side of the fan casing. The impeller is overhung on the fan shaft. Shaft vee belt driven.
Arrangement No3a
Single inlet fan as arrangement no 3. but having motor mounted on bearing pedestal.
Arrangement No4
Single inlet fan having impeller directly mounted on the motor shaft. motor can be flange mounted to case side or pedestal mounted to one side of the fan casing.
Arrangement No6
Single inlet fan having two bearings positioned on a pedestal to one side of the fan case, impeller overhung on fan shaft. Shaft driven through flexibile coupling by motor also mounted on pedestal.
