Energy Efficiency

From January 01, 2015, fans put onto the market within the EU have to comply with energy efficiency Regulation 327/2011, implementing Directive 2009/125/EC.

This Directive specifies minimum energy efficiency levels for fans with electrical input power between 125 W (0.125 kw) and 500 kw (known as Tier 2).

This Tier 2 Efficiency level requirement follows the Tier 1 level introduced on January 01, 2013.

Discussions are already underway on the possibility of a Tier 3 but no decisions are yet made on efficiency requirements or implementation dates.

Not all fans we manufacture come within the scope of the directive but those that do will be marked with energy data as required.

Additional data will also be contained on a technical document sent with every fan.

Please note that, as required in the directive, data is based on optimum efficiency operating point, not necessarily on the specific operating point that the fan was sold for.

In addition to the above, efficiency grades for electric motors also change on January 01, 2015.

This will increase from IE2 to IE3 for most standard industrial motors, 7.5kw to 375kw, or IE2 if used in conjunction with a VSD. As with fans there are some types that are excluded from the Directive.

From January 2017 the IE3 range is extended and will now be 0.75kw to 375kw. IE2 permissible as above. This applies to 2, 4 & 6 pole speeds. Fan efficiencies remain at Tier 2, 2015.

Although the fan and motor Directives are not directly related, the motor efficiency levels do have an impact on our fan efficiency calculations as they are based on energy input to the motor.

If you require energy efficiency data for your fan (that was supplied from January 2013 onwards), please complete and send us form below. Fields marked * are required, especially the fan serial number as the data is specific to each fan.
