Hat-Rick of wins for F&B and Cases sponsored Will Burns in GT5 Challenge at Rockingham

May 14, 2013

A perfect weekend saw Will Burns climb up the championship standings at Rockingham motor speedway with an impressive three wins and valuable championship points over the bank holiday. The Academy Motorsport driver topped the time sheets through practice and felt confident going into qualifying.

“This is my bogey track” commented Will, “I’m not a big fan of Rockingham so I was going into qualifying thinking only of points.”

With qualifying underway Will found a gap and set two hot laps sooner rather than later with Academy Motorsport, deciding to tactically look after the tyres and only run the first half of the session. With out the car he had a long wait to see if Bailey, Davenport or Pittard could beat his times. By the end of the session he grabbed two pole positions by 0.716 of a second from his nearest rivals.

“It was a nervous time for me as I had no control of what would happen with Bailey getting quicker lap by lap! It’s not fun watching from the pit lane but I trusted the team’s decision and it paid off.”

“I’m thrilled to finally be up on the top step of the podium! I could not of done it without all the hard work and effort that has gone on behind the scenes at Academy Motorsport & my sponsors Cases Ltd and Fans & Blowers Ltd who have backed me from the start, I owe it to them!”

The second race of the afternoon saw Will once again take the lead through turn one, and whilst challenged by a gaggle of cars behind, they were so busy distracting each other throughout the opening lap, Will was able to establish a 1.7 second lead by the time they completed lap one. Knowing what to expect from the previous race Will kept his head down and drove a flawless drive to achieve his second win of the weekend.

“I hope this weekend never ends! It has more than made up for the mechanical issues I faced at Oulton Park, with the possibility of three wins in a row this would more than make up for the previous rounds of frustration I faced.”

The third and final race of the bank holiday and with an ever growing confident Burns behind the wheel it was hard to bet against any other result than a repeat of race two. Leading again going into Deene Hairpin Burns once again knuckled down and slowly pulled away from a very determined Davenport. However this time with a smaller gap of two seconds, it was a tougher race than the previous two.

With the chequered flag out it was to be a spectacular end to the weekend with three wins, three fastest laps and a lap record for the Academy Motorsport rising star and a maximum points haul to throw him from 5th to 2nd in the championship only, 10 points behind Bailey.
